Palmieri derives from the medieval term palmerius, attributed to those who had made the pilgrimage to the Holy Land and returned carrying a palm twig with them. Traces of this last name are first found here in Tuscany in Cronica delle cose occorrenti ne’ tempi suoi (1294) Dino Compagni, who recounted events that occurred in Tuscany during that period. Another notable Palmieri figure in the history of Florence was humanist and politician Matteo Palmieri (1406), a known supporter of the de’ Medici dynasty of Florence.
In creating a brand which would reflect her warmth and elegance, but also capture history and her bond with Italy, Rita has chosen to pay homage to her last name. This simple word does not just currently nominate families in Italy and abroad, but addresses an important connection of the people to the Holy Land. Being first introduced formally as a last name as early as 1294, it stands to represent almost a millenium of family history, migrations and reunions, such as Rita’s, with bringing her story closer to her roots.
Her stem embodies the concept of such reconnect and symbolizes a new era in her and the life of her family.
